I have come to Portland from Tanzania and wanted to share some of Tanzania’s traditions, culture and nature. Though one of the poorest countries in Africa, recently Tanzania has been developing at a high rate of 6 to 8 percent. It’s located on the Eastern side of Africa just below Kenya. Tanzania is a union of two republics — Tanganyika (mainland Tanzania) and Zanzibar (Unguja and Pemba Islands). Tanzania features some of the most beautiful landscapes and the best wildlife in the world. Tanzania is the home to Mt. Kilimanjaro, Africa’s tallest mountain, It is also home to the Serengeti, which houses over 3 million animals. Ngorongoro crater, the largest crater in the world, is where the first sign of human evolution were discovered. Tanzania is one of the largest wildlife sanctuaries in the world. With more national parks than any other country in Africa, Tanzania is considered the best safari destination in the world. Lake Victoria forms part on the northern border, Lake Tanganyika forms part of the Western border, while Lake Malawi and Lake Nyasa form parts of the southern border.

It’s also very rich in culture with over 120 different tribes. The Masai tribe is one of the most famous tribes in Tanzania. They are well known for being resistant to change. They don’t embrace the modern lifestyle. For example, they always dress traditionally regardless of whether they are living in a town or village. They also believe that ‘all the cattle in the world belongs to them’ so they are found raiding cattle on a belief that they are just reclaiming their property which was stolen from them at some point. They drink fresh animal blood. Fresh blood forms part of their most treasured meal. It’s very fascinating to visit the Masai villages. You will be astonished

The national language of Tanzania is Swahili, and 98 percent of all Tanzania speak Swahili, so if you are planning to visit Tanzania, learn some little Swahili. It’s fun to speak Swahili — a mixture of local native African language and Arabic. Tanzanians are known for being very friendly and very hospitable. Tanzania is regarded as one of the most hospitable countries in Africa and is also politically peaceful.
