We have exciting news on a current Portland Roasting customer — The Glass Onion in Goldendale, Wash., Owners Maren and Matt have been nominated for the “Shine a Light” program sponsored by American Express and The Today Show. If they win the program, they receive $50,000 in marketing support, as well as a $50,000 grant. In order for them to be eligible, they have to have at least 50 nominations. To endorse Glass Onion, we simply went to the Shine a Light endorsement site and registered, it only took a few minutes and we were able to endorse this wonderful business!
Maren and Matt McGowan’s are committed to running their business in a sustainable manner — to offer locally-grown and wholesome foods at reasonable prices. In 1914, Goldendale had their Carnegie library built, and it remains a hub of community activities. While libraries are closing around the country, this one still serves many of the residents and hosts many events. The Glass Onion hosted a benefit dinner for the library’s recent fundraising campaign, and provides charitable support for other endeavors like this in the community. In the midst of the current economic downturn, the presence of The Glass Onion Restaurant, with cuisine and hospitality that is wholesome and healthful adds a special flavor to the Goldendale community that can help them stay strong, well, hopeful, and proud.
In order to become a finalist for the grant, The Glass Onion needs 50 endorsements by September 13, 2009. We are proud of The Glass Onion and look forward to watching them grow. Visit the Glass Onion website to see the wonderful menu options as well as the amazing efforts they have put into the restoration of the building.
