New Staff at Portland Roasting

Nathanael May joins Portland Roasting staff as trainer –

As the newest member of the Portland Roasting team, I’ve enjoyed the singular pleasure of being chauffeured around town to various cafes and restaurants that serve our coffee. Each of our customers brings a different spin to their coffee presentation, ranging from the very simple (donut shops and diners) to the outstandingly complex (large coffee houses and hotels). Their personalities highlight different characteristics in our coffee, and it’s fascinating to see.

One of my most memorable experiences was lunch at Pacific Pie Company, a local café and caterer specializing in handmade Australian-style savory pies.

Up until that day, my only experience with “pot pies” had been the microwave variety found in the frozen food section at my local grocer. I’m not knocking what those companies are doing, but they have no idea what they’re doing. Chris and Sarah at Pacific Pie Co. have redefined for me (and everyone I know) what a savory pie should look and taste like.

It starts with the crust – the crust! What a delight! Each bite is like a warm hug for my mouth. The crust is filled with locally grown ingredients expertly prepared and cooked to bring out the most flavor possible. From the first mouthful, I knew this was very literally the best pie I’d ever eaten.

To top it all off, they serve some of the best coffee in town – ours. I can think of few things more appealing than a fresh Beef Stout pie and a cup of French Roast on a cool Oregon evening.

This city is amazing.
